My Knife Buying Process

I didn’t know that looking for a new knife could be so hard. Luckily I happen to stumble upon a few knife blogs that really helped me out. As I only wanted the essential knives, I decided to read the best chef knife sets recommended.

There were two sets that captured my attention. They were the Wusthof Classic 3-Piece Knife Set and the Wusthof Classic 6-Piece Chef Knife Set. It was because of the smaller amount I wanted, I went for the 3-Piece Set.

Three Piece Chef Knife Set

It was because of the many great reviews of this knife set, I decided to buy it online. The knives that I got were the 8-inch chef’s knife, 3.5-inch paring knife, and a 6-inch utility knife. I feel that this is great if you’re a beginner or you don’t like many knives in your kitchen.

Now I really recommend you buying this knife set because not only am I very happy with the precision of the slices but I’m also happy that it still has a razor sharp edge. The handle has also stayed in good shape and is very comfortable to grip on. The best part is that Wusthof gives a lifetime warranty to their customers. I’m very happy with my decision and I hope you give this knife set a try.

Wusthof Classic Knife Set 7-piece

Have you ever heard about the Wusthof Knife brand? If you have, you must know what I’m going to elaborate on. If you haven’t, it’s fine. Wusthof has been making exceptional knives since 1814 and their products have been used by many professional cooks and also normal housewives like me. My husband bought the Wusthof Classic Knife Set 7-piece for my birthday. The old knives I had were getting dull and I really admire the Wusthof brand since my brother has his own set. So below i have explained why i admire this particular kitchen knife set

What I Got

If you purchase the 7-piece knife set, you will get a 3-1/2-inch paring knife, a 6-inch utility knife, an 8-inch bread knife, an 8-inch cook’s knife, a 9-inch honing steel, a pair of kitchen shears, and a 13-slot storage block. My husband was also kind enough to buy me the Wusthof Hand Held Sharpener. The sharpener has 2 slots and it’s rubberised.

My Experience with the Knife Set

The first thing I would like to emphasis on is the balance and weight of the knives. These knives had a full bolster which I think is great since the knives are super sharp so if you graze if finger at the end, you won’t risk slicing yourself up. The bolster also balances the blade and the handle. The knife doesn’t not feel too heavy or too light.

The knives are made out of high-carbon stainless steel that have been precisely forged. I’ve been known to occasionally forgo the drying process and it has not show signs of corrosion. They have a full tang which is secured to the handle with three rivets. I think this is what made me feel much more confident in the kitchen. I didn’t need to worry about it slipping out my hand. Even though the handle is made of plastic, it’s very comfortable to grip on.

My advice

If you haven’t tried any products from Wusthof, I really recommend you trying it out. You never know what’s perfection until you try the razor sharp Wusthof 7-Piece Classic Knife Set.

The Amazing Swiss Kitchen Knives

The most popular knife brand among my friends is the Victorinox Cutlery so I thought I should try it out. Even though they pestered me to get a knife block set, I know I would be happy with a smaller but excellent chef knife set. The set which I got for myself is the Victorinox 4-Piece Knife Set. They come with Fibrox handles.

The Four Knives

I had gotten an 8-inch chef’s knife, a 10-1/4-inch bread knife, a 6-inch chef/utility knife, and a 4-inch paring knife. I also bought the Victorinox Swiss-Army 7-Slot In-Drawer Cutlery Tray to keep them more organised.

Before I got them, I actually did some reached about these knives. These knives have gone through a special tempering process which makes the knives easier to sharpen and have a long-lasting edge. After a year of using them with being sharpened twice, the statement is very true. I wasn’t convinced with the Fibrox handles because they looked like plastic to me. However, I have sliced through a bag of potatoes without suffering from terrible wrist tension. They also didn’t slip out of my hands and are very comfortable to grip on. It’s safe to say that the Fibrox handle are great.
The chef knife set is very budget friendly compared to other brands. I hope you will get your own set and enjoy it as much as I do. You’ll never regret it.

I know you’re probably thinking I’m mad for suggesting to give your mother a chef knife set but just stop and think. Mothers love to cook and the most important item to prep a meal is a sharp knife.

As a person who loves German chef knife set, I thought it would fun to compare two block sets of well-known German knives. I chose to use both of the knife sets for a duration of three months. The knife sets were the Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Four Star II 7-Piece Knife Set and the Black Wusthof Classic Ikon 7-Piece Knife Set which comes with an Acacia Block. If you don’t like the Acacia wooden block, you can purchase a set that comes with the Blackwood or Walnut block.

The Knives You Get

The Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Four Star II 7-Piece Knife Set came with a 3-inch paring knife, a 5-inch serrated utility knife, a 5-inch hollow-edge Santoku knife, an 8-inch chef’s knife, a pair of kitchen shears and a 9-inch sharpening steel. (Find out more here)

The Wusthof Classic Ikon 7-Piece Knife Set came with a 3.5-inch paring knife, 6-inch utility knife, an 8-inch bread knife, 8-Inch chef’s knife, a honing steel and a pair of kitchen shears.

The Legendary German Knives Appearance

There were many similarities between both of the knife sets. Both knife brands made their forged knives full tang with an extra mass of stainless-steel end caps. The handles were also made from high-impact polypropylene user-friendly handles. However, the Wusthof knives were secured to the blade by three rivets.

Check out the review:

I preferred the Wusthof handles because no matter how hard or soft I gripped the handles, it stayed in my hands as if they were glued to them. Even though the Henckels was nice to hold on, I didn’t feel confident in slicing ingredients as it was also slightly lighter than the Wusthof.

The Blade and Balance

Both, the Wusthof and Henckels, knives were very well-balanced. I think this is because they have full bolsters. Both knives edge were also very sharp and I had accidentally cut myself with both knives. However, the weight of the Wusthof knives especially the chef knife made it sliced through vegetables and big chunks of meat effortlessly. The Henckels was also easy to slice ingredients but I always find myself searching for the Wusthof to get the job done.

Both of this knife sets are almost the similar price. I recommend you getting the Wusthof because not only do I love it, it comes with a lifetime warranty which I think is very beneficial. To maintain the condition of these knives, do dry them after washing even though they’re stain and rust resistant. If you’re intimidated by the Wusthof, you can give the Henckels a try since there’s not much difference.

We all watch cooking shows(most of us at least). Probably everyone has a vivid memory of when the chef carefully brings out his set of knives from their cloth sleeve and with the same gentleness, picks up a particular knife from the set and uses it, replacing it when he is done. When we look at the way a chef handles a knife, especially when dicing or cutting, there is this air of skill and certainty, as though the knife is enabling the chef achieve his goals. The best rated chef knives would do that. It doesn’t look like it but the knives a chef uses in his dish, its quality and ergonomics affect greatly the quality of the final product and that is why a great chef always treasures his knives. This is why many at times, chefs are willing to shell out their money to obtain a good chef knife.

In this article, we will take a brief look at one of the best rated chef knives according to kitchen knives reviews. There is no perfect or standard knife size but most chefs agree that an 8 inch knife tends to fit into any wrist, no matter how large or small. Now to the main crux of the matter. Perhaps slightly inexpensive at $100, the korin gyotou, a Japanese styled high carbon steel chef knife takes the spotlight of this article. describes the knife as the “bugatti veyron of best rated chef knives”. The site says that the korin cuts so effortlessly that the user feels compelled to make every cut a perfect one. And that the korin cries out for the chefs best slicing skills as only those can do it justice.

Good knives make good food. So before you buy your next knife, think carefully because a crappy knife might just be the reason why your friends make fun of your cooking.
